Madang Resort unveils new-look facilities

 EAST Sepik Governor Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare opened the new Kalibobo Haus Kibung and the Haus Win restaurant on Monday night at the Madang Resort Hotel.

Managing director Sir Peter Barter told guests that the Haus Kibung was a dedicated function room and Haus Win restaurant had been built to international standards to improve the facilities at the resort. 

The Haus Kibung can seat 100 and a further 70 on the balcony overlooking the pool and Madang harbour.

The Haus Win restaurant can seat 200. The feature of the Haus Win are three gigantic glass aquariums that display a large variety of reef fish, coral and sea-life. 

Archbishop William Kurtz, the former archbishop of the Catholic archdiocese of Madang, blessed the building.

Sir Peter hosted a dinner for guests including Governor Jim Kas, Sir Michael, Sir Arnold Amet and Fr Jan Czuba of the Divine Word University (DWU). Scores of people attended the Kalibobo open day in Madang and visited Kalibobo village and the Madang Resort.

Sir Peter said it was an action-packed day which more than 4,000 people attended. They toured the resort and village. 

Staff and students of the DWU school of tourism guided groups of 20 to 30 visitors through the resort. 

Tug-of-war, hooping and treasure hunts were organised for children who were also allowed to use the 30m pool.

A trade fair was held in the Kalibobo Haus Kibung where 20 companies and organisations displayed their products and services for the touring general public.
