MADANG Rugby Union (MRU) continues to promote and advocate on rugby union values to every players believing that would help develop a player to be successful.
The union started off their preseason early in February due to an influx of interest from youths joining the 5 existing clubs in the competition resulted in them running the preseason for 8 weeks unlike before where they only run it for two weeks.
With MRU now looking forward for their sixth weekend into proper season this weekend president Panchito Amepou told The National that promoting core values of the code of rugby at all level competition would help players to dig deeper into their dreams as well help in their development in rugby.
“We plan to instill “DRIPS” as the core value in our code,” he said of the union.
“Instilling these values in each player is much more important before they take the field. Discipline, respect, integrity, passion and solidarity. These are rugby core values that our players must portray on and off the field.
“We’re already into our proper season, this weekend will be our 6th weekend of proper season. We have 5 clubs, each clubs has 4 divisions, senior men’s and women’s, Under19 males and Under 15 tag rugby.
“The supporters so far have been wonderful. They turn out every weekend to support the teams. We excited to see parents and family members, turning out to cheer their kids and support our players, taking photos and videos.
Amepou added that supporters attendance during the last 5 weekends of proper season had help in broadcasting the game to the wider community in Madang and the country as a whole and were grateful and encouraged more people to support rugby union in the province as it was a family oriented sport.
