Madang to field 3 teams at netball tournament

The National will be running association profiles in the lead-up to the National Netball Championships in Lae next week. Today’s issue focuses on the Madang Netball Association.

Q: How many teams will you be sending?
Madang: Three teams — the U15, U17 and A-grade sides.

Q: Who are your youngest and oldest players?
Madang: Wauta Tuakana (35), Naomi Skand and Hisenu Gelaeia (both 13).

Q: How long have you been preparing for?
Madang: Six weeks so far.

Q: What is your goal at the championships?
Madang: For players, coaches and managers, they gain exposure and learn skills from other associations. For umpires, they gain more training and receive accreditation.

Q: In your competitions, who are the champions?
Madang: Mixed Mates (A-grade), Isalembo (U17) and Holy Spirit Primary School (U15).

Q: Who are your executives?
Madang: Hitolo Amet (president), Herley Miria (vice-president), Thatianna L (secretary), Meni Morora (vice-secretary), Velda Yama (treasurer) and Alphonsa Anua (vice-treasurer)

Q: Who are your sponsors?
Madang: The Madang government and Brian Bell.

Q: Who can we lookout for?
Madang: Nisha Omi (former PNG Pepe), Herley Miria (A-grade defender), Tanya Lai (U17 mid-court/defender), Serah Buri (U17 defender), Ruthy Wanghihomie (U15 defender) and Maino Gugun (U15 shooter).
