A WOMAN charged with a count each of false pretence and misappropriation had her case adjourned to Aug 19 for submissions on sufficiency of evidence after a police hand-up brief was served on her yesterday.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Garry Unjo told Lucy Aigiru Wapi to file submissions to the court through a lawyer and have a copy tendered to the prosecution.
Wapi, from Hoyabia village in Tari-Pori, Hela, was alleged to have by false pretence, changed the title to a property (Sect 274 Lot 28) registered under Moses Garry Kope, her brother.
It was alleged that between Dec 8, 2008, and Sept 10, 2010, Wapi also mortgaged the property to the People’s Micro Bank and obtained a loan allegedly for her own use with the intent to defraud Kope.
The court heard that Kope had allowed Wapi to live at his home while he went away on job duties, however, while he was away, Wapi went to the Departmet of Lands and changed the title of the property from Kope’s name to hers.
Kope found out and laid a formal complaint where Wapi was arrested and charged then later released on a K1,000 police bail which was converted to a District Court bail.
Magistrate Unjo also ordered that both parties were restrained from interferring with each other.
