SECURITY guards have no right to beat up someone for allegedly stealing in their shops, a magistrate says.
Western Highlands Senior District Court Magistrate Betty Jacob said this yesterday after a customer, Robert Tep from Mt Hagen, told the court that he was accused of stealing and allegedly beaten up by security guards in a supermarket before being taken to the police station.
Tep and Nickson Las, a security guard employed by the Tinininga Group of Companies, allegedly fought outside the Renbo Supermarket over a bag valued at K5.
Police prosecutor Constable Stanley Lesley told the court that they were both arrested by police on Friday for fighting in a public place under the Summary Offence Amended Act.
Lesley told the court that Tep and Las were both released on K200 police bail each.
