Magistrate reduces bail for woman

A WOMAN, who allegedly injured another she accused of having an affair with her husband, was granted a K300 bail by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii yesterday.
Tekla Idris was previously granted a K500 bail but she told court yesterday that she was unable to pay that amount.
The court reduced the amount to K300 and imposed conditions – that she should attend court as and when her case was called, not to leave Port Moresby without leave of court and not interfere with state witnesses.
Idris, 23, of Karilmaril village in Gumine, Chimbu, was charged with wounding Phillipa Kalu at the Bush Wara settlement in Port Moresby.
It was alleged that on Dec 2, last year, Idris, her mother and sister attacked Kalu and she stabbed her on her left cheek with a kitchen knife.
Kalu was taken to Paradise Hospital for treatment where medical reports revealed that the knife wound was 15mm deep and 5mm long. The matter was reported to Gordon Police Station.
Idris was arrested and charged with wounding. The case was adjourned to Friday.
