Magistrate walks to courthouse with files

SENIOR Eastern Highlands Magistrate Cosmos Inkisopo had to walk down the street with two officers carrying court files yesterday to reach the temporary courthouse in Goroka because there were no vehicles.
Inkisopo had walk down with two district court staff to the Goroka council chamber where cases were being heard.
He said the only vehicle he was using had mechanical problems and could not be fixed because of the lack of funding.
“I have no choice but to carry the files and walk from here (courthouse) to the Goroka council chamber where the district court cases are heard,” he said.
The district courthouse is undergoing renovation.
Magistrate Gerard Vetunawa is hearing some cases at the Goroka police training centre.
“The lack of vehicles adversely affect the operation of the Goroka District Court not only for me, but also others serving the court,” Inkisopo said.
He hoped that the problem would be rectified without further delay.
