A MAGISTRATE has warned people cultivating and selling marijuana to stop what they are doing because it is illegal and affects people’s health.
Goroka District Court Magistrate Gerard Vetunawa issued the warning when sentencing Wali Gahane, 25, from Namaro village in Rintebe, Upper Bena, Eastern Highlands to 16 months in jail with hard labour.
He warned such drug offenders that they would head straight for jail.
Gahane was arrested during a police dawn raid last Wednesday at the Bihute piggery outside Goroka town.
Police uprooted more than 270 matured marijuana plants.
Gahane lives there with his relatives.
Police are looking for an accomplice who fled when police arrived.
Gahane pleaded guilty and is serving his term at the Bihute jail outside Goroka town.
