PAPUA Rugby Football League Southern Confederation director Gwaibo Mairi is warning players and officials not to buy fake vaccination cards as it will only hamper the country’s efforts against the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
“This is not a joke and we all should treat this seriously,” he said as Southern Super League leans towards a ‘no jab, no game’ policy to protect its stakeholders, including players.
“This practice must not be entertained all costs as we need to protect the game from such non-sense.”
Mairi said the sport’s national governing body continued to encourage the use of standard operating procedures in all its programmes and vaccination was part of it.
Southern Super League chairman Bagelo Solien said he was aware of reports of fake vaccination cards being circulated on the streets.
He warned club presidents to monitor this to avoid inconvenience at the point of excess at Moresby South Stadium and Sir John Guise Stadium, where the games would be played.
Solien told all 12 teams to hand over their vaccination cards by tomorrow or Saturday for double checking with National Control Centre records to confirm their legitimacy.
“Cheating will not help you at all as it may put you in an awkward or dangerous position if you fall ill during the season,” he said.
“So we all have to be honest in what we are doing in these difficult times as many people are dying from the virus.”
