THE Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd (MVIL) expects an increase in revenue when it starts registering imported vehicles, mobile plants and machines, an official says.
MVIL managing director Michael Makap signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PNG Customs chief commissioner David Towe in Port Moresby yesterday to ensure proper checks were made at points of entry, and controls at ports were tightened.
Makap said it was part of the implementation of the amended MVIL Act to increase MVIL’s presence and provide a much-needed service at the ports.
“The MVIL recognises the importance of PNG Custom’s role at the border in facilitating international trade that involves the inspection of imported goods, including vehicles,” he said.
“We are, therefore, keen to work with PNG Customs to ensure imported vehicles, mobile plant and machinery are registered and insured.”
Towe said the PNG Customs would continue to carry out its role in border security, international trade facilitation, community protecting and revenue collection for the State.
