GRADE 10 students from Kaupena High School in Southern Highlands were urged to do well in their examinations this week because the government was investing a lot in them.
Before sitting for the mathematics and personal development exams on Monday, headmaster Joel Kogup reminded the 280 students that they must achieve good results and make the government proud.
He said most students came from poor backgrounds and would not have been able to pay fees to go to school, but the O’Neill Government was good to them and made it possible.
“In these tough economic times, most of you could have missed out on this opportunity of pursuing your education,” Kogup said.
“You are here today to sit for exams because this Government is concerned about your education and your future.
“The only way you can thank the Government is to do exceptionally well in all subjects that you sit this week and make the Government happy.
“People invest in you and expect results from you. I wish you good luck and hope you all do well because as teachers, we’ve taught you well and equipped you with what you are supposed to know,” Kogup reiterated.
He praised Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his People’s National Congress Party for their free education policy which pays the tuition fees of students throughout the country.
“We have a very good government that is helping ordinary Papua New Guineans to give a future to their children through educational support,” he said.
“In saying this, parents must not take a joy ride.
“They have a responsibility towards their children to take care of them until they finish university and find jobs,” Kogup said.
