Makers of Ox&Palm cook up a book

HUGO Canning company, manufacturers of the iconic Ox & Palm corned beef has launched a new cookbook for Papua New Guineans titled PNG Kaikai.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop launched the book in front of more than 100 women who attended the annual “what women want” expo at Port Moresby’s Gateway Hotel.
Hugo cannery general manager David Slade and company staff gave free copies to the women at the expo.
“The PNG Kaikai cookbook is the first of its kind in PNG and includes recipes from everyday consumers of Ox and Palm, Ocean Blue Tuna and Heinz products,” Slade said.
He said the book showed the best of the ingredients “that comes from what grows in gardens of PNG complemented with a high level of protein”.
“Many of us have been living with corned beef for a long time now that we have come up with different types of recipes to prepare for the family,” Slade said.
Parkop said he hoped the book would improve hygiene for families.
Slade said they had produced 10,000 copies of the small booklet that would be available nationwide for
whoever wanted to buy a copy.
“We would like to extend a special thanks to the Star Printers for getting the books out in time for the launch.”
