VETERAN Enoch Maki is determined to help get the SP Hunters back on track in the upcoming Intrust Super Cup season after the Papua New Guinea Kumul returned to training last week.
Maki told The National that the focus for the Hunters was to regain their confidence and competitiveness following an underwhelming season last year.
“For the upcoming season, I just want to give my best and do my part in the team,” he said. “I want to concentrate on my fitness so that I can be ready.
“We don’t want to play in this competition just to make up the numbers. We want to go all the way and reach the finals.
“A lot of good players have come in this year so we’ve been reminding each other to have a strong mindset and work hard to achieve good results this season.”
Maki also acknowledged the arrival and leadership of new Hunters coach Matthew Church, who had brought in new ideas. “Everyone in the team has their own style of play which he (Church) understands,” the former Viper said.
“It’s my second week back in training and he’s brought in a lot of good ideas. I’m excited.
“We’re looking forward to working with him in the new season.”
Meanwhile, Church has also welcomed the return of Maki and Stanton Albert in the squad, with Kumuls pair’s presence having a positive impact on the Hunters rookies.
