Makiba thanks electorate for vote of confidence

KOMO-Margarima MP-elect Manasseh Makiba has thanked his people for having confidence in his leadership qualities.
The lawyer, 33, who contested the seat as an independent candidate, was declared on Monday night.
He arrived in Port Moresby from Tari yesterday and was met by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill at the Jackson International Airport.
Makiba arrived with Hela MPs-elect Petrus Thomas (Koroba-Kopiago) and James Marape (Tari-Pori).
“I just want to thank the people of Hela for placing their trust in me,” he said.
“We’ve got some big issues in the electorate that need to be addressed.
“The electorate also hosts the LNG project and I’m intent on addressing issues regarding that.”
Makiba said he would be in government.
“I will be in government – that’s all I’ve got to say,” he said.
Makiba was a lawyer for MRDC before contesting the election.
