LAE City recruit Nigel Malagian is in a stable condition after suffering a mild stroke last month, according to club manager Edris Kumbruwah.
The former Tusbab Stallions captain was reported to have collapsed at his home in Lae and was later rushed to the Angau Memorial Hospital.
Kumbruwah told The National that the cause of the stroke was yet to be identified with Malagian undergoing physiotherapy. “He collapsed at his home last month and he was rushed to the hospital after,” he said.
“We later found out that he had a mild stroke and that’s what they are looking into now because he’s still going through tests and check-ups.
“He’s undergoing therapy at Lae International Hospital and the physiotherapists say that he will be fine.
“He’s improved movement in his limbs so that’s a good sign. We are aware of his situation and we trying our best to get him fully rehabilitated.
“He’s just too young to have gone through this sort of thing so we’ve sent him to a couple of specialists to really find out what happened to him.
“He has a review that’s coming up and perhaps we will have to refer him to a neurosurgeon depending on his condition. Nigel was doing well at training and then the unfortunate thing happened to him.”
Meanwhile, the Stallions have reached out to Malagian with patron Conrad Wadunah offering the club’s support. “Nigel has always been an integral part of the team, even if he is away,” he said. The situation that he is going through is something our players still have to come to terms with.”
Stallions pair Jason Wadunah and Solomon Mapai, who visited Malagian recently, said their former captain was slowly recovering.
