TWO child care centres in NCD were grateful recipients of donations from the Malaysian Association of PNG (MAPNG) yesterday.
The two cheques for K20,000 and K25,000 were donated to Caritas Learning Centre (CLC) and PNG Children Foundation (PNGCF) respectively by MAPNG on separate occasions.
The chairman of Malaysian Business Council (MBC) charity golf fundraising and executive director of RH group of companies, Ivan Lu, said that the donations were part of the association’s drive to give something back to the community, especially those who were unfortunate and needy.
“The association is committed to do charity work as we believe in worthy causes,” Lu said.
He said that this was not the first time MAPNG had helped care centres.
In the past it has given similar charity donations to these as well 12 other organisations.
CLC’s Sister Senoria Kim, in receiving the K20,000 cheque, said that the donations from MAPNG was timely for her school and would go a long way in helping the centre.
“This money will be used for the daily operations of the centre.
“We will use it to buy food, books and meet other utility costs,” Kim said.
She said, at present, they had 170 students  but they expected more to enrol next year.
The other cheque for K25,000 was received by Yiannis Nicolaou, president of the PNGCF, who said that the money would help cover some of its operational costs.
Nicolaou thanked the MAPNG and said that PNGCF had many programmes for disadvantaged children and the donation would help in executing those programmes.
Meanwhile, Malaysian High Commissioner to PNG, Datin Blanche Olbery, said the Malaysian High Commission to PNG would hold a Christmas charity function at Vision City on Dec 12.
She has extended her invitation to recipients of the donations to send in requests so that presents can be organised for their school and students.
