Man, 70, charged with molesting girl, 10

A 70-YEAR-OLD man was charged in the Waigani committal court yesterday with molesting a 10-year-old girl on June 9.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura read the charges to the man, remanded him and fixed July 22 for mention.
Magistrate Wakikura told the man, who is employed by a hospital in Port Moresby, that he could apply for bail.
According to the police investigation, the man and girl were neighbours in a compound in Port Moresby.
It was alleged that on June 9, between 8.30pm and 9pm, the man pulled the girl to the back of his house and sexually abused her by putting his hand under her skirt touching her and caressing her chest.
When the man saw that the girl’s mother was coming to his house, he told the girl to go and he went to the front of his house.
When the girl’s mother confronted the accused, he admitted that he was wrong.
