A MAN accused of misusing K48,000 belonging to the Aumo Anglican church in Kimbe, West New Britain appeared before magistrate Tracey Ganai in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Marcus Sakail, 49, from Asalmepus village in Kandrian, West New Britain is charged with misappropriation. The case has been transferred to Kimbe to make it easier for witnesses.
Sakail was alleged to have been the contactor that Aumo Anglican Church had engaged to build their new church.
The deal between the parties were made after a cheque for K50,000 was presented to the church by WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel in March last year and deposited into the church account in July.
Agreements were made and K48,000 was deposited into Sakail’s business account.
However the church building was never built and Sakail was nowhere to be seen until he was seen in Port Moresby last month.
He was arrested on Dec 12.
Magistrate Ganai ordered that the case be transferred to Kimbe.
She extended Sakail’s bail of K1,000 on the condition that he reported to the prosecution office in Kimbe as soon as he got there.
