Man accused of wounding to face trial

THE Waigani Committal court has committed a man accused of l wounding to be tried in the National Court after finding “overwhelming” evidence against him.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told Sevie Siari to appear in the higher court for listing on July 15.
Siari, 42, from Malaloa in Gulf, was accused of wounding Jimmy Levao by allegedly hitting him with a metal rod on Nov 11 at the Ranugan Settlement in Port Moresby.
Siari was drunk and chasing his two children, who were running away from him.
He started an argument with a group of people gambling under Levao’s house because he thought they were hiding them from him.
He allegedly assaulted Levao’s wife Mary and nearly got into a fight with Levao.
Siari allegedly told Levao “you are my enemy” before walking away.
Levao followed Siari to his house demanding an explanation why he called him his enemy.
Siari got a long metal rod and allegedly hit Levao with it.
Levao was admitted to the Port Moresby General Hospital for wounds on his head.
Siari requested Levao and his relatives to give him time to settle the matter by paying compensation but they refused.
They said it was not the first time he had assaulted members of the community.
