A 48-YEAR-OLD man was charged in the Goroka Committal Court with allegedly slashing his wife to death and burying her in a pit toilet between Dec 25 and Jan 1.
John Eli, from Henganofi’s Ababe village, Eastern Highlands, was arraigned last Friday and ordered to return for hearing on March 7.
Eli was arrested by Goroka police after his wife’s family members from Kerowagi in Chimbu lodged a police report that Betty Aglua was allegedly killed or went missing.
Eastern Highlands police found Aglua’s mutilated and decomposing body in a toilet-pit.
One of the brothers, Johnson Aglua, was returning from Lae on a bus when he asked the driver to stop at Ababe village along the highway where his sister and her husband were living.
He wanted to drop off some dry coconuts and betel nuts.
When he went searching for his sister, he met some boys and was told that his sister was missing.
From their body language, he learnt that his sister may have got into a big problem or may have been killed.
As the bus left Ababe village, a woman (passenger) in the bus said a woman from Kerowagi was killed by her husband some days ago.
Johnson then informed his family members in Chimbu and they then lodged a police report in Goroka.
