Man charged with publishing false report

A MAN who through a text message allegedly accused a person of stealing gold belonging to the people of Enga has been charged under the Cyber Crime Act.
Richard Kiakao, of Kompiam in Enga, was charged with one count of publishing a false report (text message) through the Digicel PNG telecommunication network in Port Moresby.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii adjourned the matter to Feb 19.
It was alleged that on Nov 4, 2019, Kiakao published a false report with intent to tarnish Tom Amaiu’s reputation.
He sent a text message stating that Amaiu, then the Director of Parliament Resources PNG Ltd, had allegedly stolen K6.8 million worth of gold belonging to the people of Enga.

  • Any investigation done before he is charged?..he could be telling the truth, do news reporters/journalist gets summoned before the courts and get charged for the articles and stories they wrote in the newspapers?…I think not because the articles holds some truth and has been researched. Give this guy a fair go!
