POLICE have charged a 32-year-old man with two counts of rape for sexually assaulting his stepdaughters aged six and nine.
Madang commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the man, from Morobe, was charged under Section 229D (1) of the Criminal Code Act after statements were recorded from the witnesses and the victims.
He said according to police and witness statements, it was alleged that the man had on several occasions fondled the girls’ private parts with his fingers and penis.
Supt Rubiang said he was caught by the mother on Sunday and she lodged a police report.
“According to the medical report from the hospital, there is evidence of sexual penetration not with his penis but with his fingers which was also confirmed by the victims,” he said.
“His files will be completed and he will appear in court to defend himself.
“Parents with children under the age of 18 are urged to take good care of their children because there are many reports of such crimes.”
According to the girls’ mother, she met her new husband in 2017 and, after their marriage, they had a son.
“I was shocked to hear what my daughters told me what my husband did to them,” she said.
“I regret knowing him in the first place. I will leave him to look after my daughters myself.”
