A MAN has been charged with one count of murder in relation to a sorcery-related killing of a man in Kerema, Gulf.

Asi Kawas, 25, of Korua village in Gulf surrendered to police at Malalaua early this month and was transferred to Kerema police station where he was detained.

The deceased was identified by police as Joseph Kendio of Houpe village, Malalaua in Gulf.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for Southern, Allan Kundi said the killing occurred on Aug 16 at Houpoe village in Gulf.

Kundi said investigations by detectives in Kerema showed that the killing could have been pre-meditated.

“Kawas blamed Kendio for killing his mother, brother and sister-in-law through sorcery,” he said.

Kundi said Kawas tracked down Kendio to his village.

“The deceased was asleep at his house when approached by Kawas,” he said.
