POLICE detained a man last week in relation to the death of a female student.
Henrietta Jimmy, 21, from a mixed parentage of Morobe, Manus and East Sepik, did not return home on May 24, after she went to a local trade store at Nasuapum village in the Wampar LLG in Huon Gulf, Morobe, to buy food for her family.
The decomposed body of the late Grade 9 student of the Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) centre in Lae was later discovered along the Markham River.  Morobe police commander Supt Augustine Wampe said the man, who was a prime suspect in the death of Jimmy, was re-arrested by police.
Wampe said the man, from Nasuapum village, was taken in for questioning earlier but was released.
“We have re-arrested the suspect because we believe there is evidence to suggest that he knew about the death,” Wampe said.
“He is related to the deceased. We have detained the suspect but we are yet to lay a charge.”
“The reason is, he is a prime suspect and we are concerned that he might run away if we allow him to roam around freely,” he said.
Police believe the suspect was last seen with Jimmy before she disappeared.
Wampe said police were just waiting for a post mortem report from the hospital to find out about the cause of death.
He said police would link up the autopsy report given by doctors with “circumstantial evidence” to lay charges.
