THE Waigani Committal Court has dismissed the case of a man charged with unlawful assault after the victim forgave him.
Teka Teka, from Baruni village in the National Capital District was alleged to have assaulted another person when he was intoxicated using a stone that caused a fracture on the victim’s skull on Oct 15 last year at Baruni, National Capital District.
When the case was mentioned on July 6, Magistrate Cosmas Bidar found enough evidence in the case to commit to the National Court, but considered a letter written by the victim to withdraw the case.
Bidar read out the victim’s letter in court which stated that Teka had given K600 as compensation and the victim had ‘forgiven his (Teka’s) sins’. After considering this Bidar said the case was not worth wasting taxpayers’ money if it was to proceed on to the National Court and ordered the case to be dismissed.
