MT HAGEN District Court has ordered a man to pay his wife with K300 in compensation and be of good behaviour for the next eight months for attacking her with an iron bar.
Magistrate Donald Joseph also issued an order to George Kawage yesterday to pay a K300 fine which would be deducted from his bail money.
The court found Kawage guilty of attacking his wife on Jan 19 at Ela Barracks.
He was arrested and charged under the Family Protection Act for attacking his wife with an iron bar.
The defendant attacked his wife with an iron bar and then got a bush knife and swung it at her. He missed.
He said his wife Josephine Kawage had embarrassed him in front of his friends.
Kawage felt embarrassed when his wife, after playing volleyball, came and told his colleagues to put back the chickens which they had taken on credit from her chicken coop.
The court found that the wife was in a game of volley when her husband called her. She didn’t respond.
The defendant then sent her a text message and she threw the keys of the chicken coop to him.
The defendants then took his friends to the chicken coop.
When she turned up, she told Kawage’s friends to put the chickens back.
