A MAN appeared in the Waigani Committal Court accused of raping a disabled girl living with the help of medication.
Magistrate Tracey Ganai said Jonathan John, 23, from Kaket in Dei, Western Highlands was charged with one count of rape but it was more serious since it involved a person living with a disability.
John was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he committed the alleged offence.
It was alleged that on Dec 15 around 6am at Gerehu Stage Five, John entered the girl’s house and forced her into a wrecked car on the premises and raped her.
He later threatened her not to tell anyone of the incident.
John was about to escape from the premises when he was sighted by the victim’s father.
He was apprehended by the family and taken to Gerehu Police Station where he admitted committing the offence without the victim’s consent.
He was arrested and charged with one count of rape and was later released on a K500 police bail. The case was adjourned to Feb 13.

  • Every week the news papers are reporting Rape Cases? Most of them, the rapist are out on bail, bail with condition! That does not make any sense. The government should look into imposing tougher penalties for the rapists! They don’t deserve to be part of a community.
