Man in court over army uniform

A MAN charged with wearing a PNG Defence Force-issued camouflage trousers was ordered to pay a K300 court fine.
Daki Wama from Hagen Central, Western Highlands, who was also charged with loitering, pleaded not guilty.
His trial was conducted yesterday.
Wama was initially charged with being in possession of a gun with the intention to commit an indictable offence on Oct 1.
He was apprehended at Dirty Wara in Dei by soldiers and taken to Mt Hagen police station. Investigating officer Senior Constable James Oka told the Mt Hagen District Court that he found no evidence to support the two charges (gun possession and intention to commit an indictable offence).
Oka said he charged Wama with wearing army-issued issued trousers and loitering. Wama told the court that he was from Hagen Central and not Dei and was at Dirty Wara to visit relatives.
Wama claimed he was assaulted by the soldiers and suffered injuries but was not taken to the hospital.
Magistrate Jacinta Doa told the parties she would hand down her decision tomorrow on the loitering charge.
Oka told The National outside court that Wama had pleaded guilty to wearing a PNGDF trousers and ordered a K300 fine.
