A MAN, 43, was yesterday jailed 14 years and seven months with hard labour by the National Court for sexually abusing his daughter.
Judge Panuel Mogish had initially jailed him 17 years but took time off he had spent in custody at Bomana prison. Judge Mogish said the man, name withheld for his daughter’s sake, from Abau in Central, had sexually abused and penetrated the girl more than once between June 14 and Oct 9, 2021.
He said the daughter was 16 at the time.
He said during the first incident, the man was home at Badili in National Capital District with his daughter and son.
Judge Mogish said the man had forced his daughter into a room, forced himself on her, had sex with her and then threatened that she not tell anyone.
He said the man had pleaded guilty to the offence. Judge Mogish said that the offence was a “gross betrayal of trust between a father and his daughter”.
He said a father had a responsibility to protect his daughter and not defile her.
“I consider the defilement of a biological daughter by her father to be very grave and unforgiving,” he said.
He said cases like this warranted the perpetrator to be far removed from the victim’s life so she can heal.
