A 32-YEAR-OLD man was jailed four years by a district court in Lae for dangerous drugs (marijuana) possession last Friday.
Magistrate Pious Tapil told Hile Maihuma, from Okapa’s Tunukau village in Eastern Highlands, that he noted that three others, James Kamane, 46, from Gembolg’s Bongu village in Chimbu, James Agge, 25, from Okapa’s Yasupi village in Eastern Highlands and Jonah Mmito, 40, from Okapa’s Harsaupi village in Eastern Highlands, had also pleaded not guilty.
On May 26, at 3-Mile outside Lae, policemen on foot patrol crime-prevention rounds in a settlement received a tip-off regarding large quantities of marijuana trading in the D.P 1 settlement (3-Mile).
Police then conducted a dawn raid at Wara Market settlement and searched a house where they found huge quantities of marijuana in a white market bag wrapped in transparent sticky tape.
Four men were arrested in the raid and 2kg packs of marijuana were seized.
