Man jailed for 10 years

A MAN has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for the armed robbery of a shopping outlet in Rabaul.
Willie Bernard from Mikarop village in Bogia, Madang was jailed by the Kokopo National Court after being found guilty.
The state alleged that on Aug 22, 2014 at around 1pm, he walked into the Lings Freezer with a homemade shotgun and held up a female worker.
In fear of her life, she pulled out the drawer where the money was and put it in Bernard’s bag.
He was arrested several days later at Vudal and it was revealed that the total amount he stole was K10,700, including cheques. Barnard told the court he shared all the money with his friends.
Justice Salatiel Lenalia said armed robbery cases were prevalent in East New Britain and serious.
