A 23-YEAR-OLD man who verbally threatened to kill his father on New Year’s Day has been described as a parasite by a magistrate.
Boroko District Court Magistrate Mathew Maitang on Friday told Walter Norm from Woginara village, Dagua in East Sepik, that people who threatened to kill their parents were “cursed”.
“Right now, you are just a parasite. You have no importance”, Magistrate Maitang said.
He told Norm that any rational person would not have said that to their own parents.
Norm, a son of a police officer, allegedly came home drunk around 3pm on Jan 1, swore at his father and destroyed the louvre blades and light bulbs in their home at the police barracks in the Games Village at Waigani, Port Moresby.
Norm threatened his father and all the family members.
He stoned his father’s vehicle.
The father lodged a complaint with police.
Norm was charged with domestic violence and damaging property.
Police Prosecutor Senior Sgt Peter Asi said the house was a public property. He submitted that Norm be jailed for 12 months on both charges but to be suspended and Norm placed on a good behaviour bond for that period.
He told the court that Norm’s father was a humble and disciplined officer who had tried his best to discipline his son many times.
Snr Sgt Asi said the father had spent more than K20,000 already on his son’s education and he was about to graduate.
Magistrate Maitang sentenced Norm to 12 months in jail on both charges but suspended the sentence on the condition that Norm be placed on a good behaviour bond for that period, refrain from taking alcohol, refrain from damaging property and to not to abuse his father.
Norm’s K600 bail was refunded.

  • I commend the officer, for doing his duties well, as the Son needs to respect his father, as it say’s in the bible obey your father & Mother as under the Ten Commandments.

We need more of this kinds of Publication so we see Police offers performances on paper as record of evidence, this could lead to promotion as perform according to their duties,

Just observation on the nations papers as per outcomes performed in line of duties, and thanks National for reporting.
