Man who assaulted wife fined K600

A MAN who assaulted his wife after a family row has been fined K600 in default 12 months imprisonment, after she told the court he had attacked her many times before.
Magistrate Tera Dawai told Jaybesteen Kamakomul, 24, of Aika village in Tambul, Western Highlands, that such spats happened between newly-married couples, he must learn to control his emotions to avoid hurting his spouse. He fined him K600 and used the bail money Kamakomul had paid for his fine.
The incident on Aug 24 happened at Wagtail Street, Cassowary Road because Kamakomul had not wanted his wife to take their son to visit her mother and relatives.
The court heard that he stormed into his mother-in-law’s home swearing at his wife, and tried to hit her with an iron rod while she was holding the baby.
Police said Kamakomul punched her twice.
In her statement in court, she said she had been physically abused many times before, even when she was pregnant and after giving birth.
She said Kamakomul had an aggressive behaviour and was not concerned about the safety of their son.
