THE Mt Hagen District Court ordered a woman and a man to compensate the husband of the woman with K1,300.
In a civil court proceeding presided by Magistrate Lydia Karre on Tuesday, the court ordered Lona Pulop and a man, who she claimed to have been married to for four years, to pay K500 each to the complainant Kamtai Min.
The court also ordered them to pay an additional K300 for Min’s court expenses.
Min took his wife from Jiwaka and her new lover to court charging them adultery.
Min told the court that he first took his wife to court at Kolamo village in Jiwaka in 2017 to take her back after she went and stayed with her family members.
He told the court that the village court ordered her to return to him as he was looking after their two children, aged 10 and eight, but she refused.
He told the court that she later told him that she got married to another man and Min made another court summons against
her at Tarangau village court in 2018.
He claimed that Pulop appeared at the Tarangau village court and admitted that she got married to another man and she was ordered to compensate him with K400 which she did.
Min told the court that he called his wife to inform her and her partner to appear in court
last Tuesday, but they failed to appear.
Min told the court that their two children lived with him and wanted Pulop to repay the bride price which he paid to her and her family.
Karre told Min to take the matter of the bride price repayment back to the village.
She said the village court had the power to annul the marriage and order the repayment of the bride price.
She said village court dealt with customary laws.
