Manase wants govt to address aviation security before Apec

AVIATION security is an important part of the challenges the government needs to effectively address before the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in November, says Minister for Civil Aviation Alfred Manase.
Tabling the 2015 Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) annual report, Manase said it was a year of increased aviation complexity and growth.
But the absence of a board was a challenge for the CASA management in continuing to deliver Government’s and the aviation industry’s expectations that safety and security be maintained and enhanced.
“Despite the challenge, significant achievement had been made by the authority and this is demonstrated by the completion of the audit of financial statement for the year,” Manase said. He said new technology and changes in the aviation environment were significant and such changes had the potential to increase aviation risks level in safety and security if not addressed properly.
“As such, aviation forms an important part of the broader challenges that the Government will need to effectively address in the lead-up to the Apec leaders’ summit in November.”
Manase said CASA was the agency which should be taking appropriate initiatives to enhance safety and security in the aviation industry.
