Police Commissioner David Manning commended the 135 policemen and other officers who graduated from the Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance in Port Moresby on Friday.

WITH 135 policemen and officers graduating from the Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance on Friday, Commissiner David Manning reminded them of their role in serving the people of Papua New Guinea.
“Despite the negativity aimed at the police force, those who have taken the initiative to better themselves through academic pursuits, I am pleased with your hard work and it has been paid off today,” he said.
“I know it has been a tough journey, juggling work and academia, but you have achieved what many have been doing for the past year or so after the force took up the task of allowing policemen and officers to achieve further education through the institute.
“I am humbled and with gratitude, express my sincere congratulations to all of you.
“Personal development is an individual choice and it includes individual sacrifices.
“To be here and make time to better yourselves, you should also acknowledge the sacrifices of your families.
“Our people need us, we have gone through significant challenges and one constant element has been the men and women that wear the blue uniform. What we contribute to the work of police is what will see the force change for the better.”
Institute chief executive officer Moses Barobe said the achievement of the policemen and officers was commendable.
“We would like to add more courses to what it can offer to policemen and officers,” he said.
“That included courses on investigations.”
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the police and the institute to ensure more policemen and officers were able to continue with their education.
