Manning: Cop will be dealt with

A POLICEMAN who left his uniform, several rounds of ammunition and gun in a taxi last week will be dealt with by the special services division (SSD) executive.
The policeman, part of the SSD, was alleged to have been drunk when he left his belongings in the taxi.
Police Commissioner David Manning told The National that he was aware of the incident and he was in close contact with the executives of the division.
“We are working together to find out what happened and it is a concern as to how an officer would leave his firearm and ammunition in a taxi,” Comm Manning said.
“Once we know what happened, the officer will be dealt with administratively.”
According to the Comfort Taxi Facebook page, the constable left his bag in the taxi after a night out.
“Last night (Friday), a drunken constable in civilian clothing was picked up by one of our drivers and asked to be dropped off at McGregor Barracks at around 11pm,” the post said.
“Upon arrival, the customer had an argument with our driver.
“The driver sensed that he didn’t have the taxi fare so he hasted out before another unexpected commotion unfolded.
“Before he knocked off, he saw a bag at the backseat of his taxi and realised that a rifle magazine fully loaded with live ammunition believed to be from an M16 and a pair of police-issued uniforms together with other valuable items.
“If you (are) the owner of these items reading our post here, we kindly urge you to come over to Comfort Taxi Base at Kennedy Estate for retrieval.”
The post garnered many comments, with the incident reaching the SSD executive team and the Office of the Commissioner of Police.
