Manus police happy with outcome of festive season operation

POLICE on Manus are happy with their efforts and achievements in the Christmas-New Year operations.
Police commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said his men had recaptured an escapee at Wal Island during New Year operations.
The escapee was serving time for murder when he escaped from Lorengau prison recently.
Police also apprehended a rape suspect on Dec 24, after the man had threatened and allegedly raped a woman at Buluso village.
Yapu said despite a few isolated incidents, the festive period was celebrated peacefully.
He said a total of 87 police personnel were on duty.
He said this included a section of the East New Britain-based mobile squad 18 members.
“Police were deployed to Penabu Nali Sopat and Pobuma local-level governments and the local-level government areas were quiet,” he said.
“A convicted escapee was apprehended at Wal Island.”
