A PNG DataCo team visited Manus last week to do a topography survey for the cable landing station where the undersea cable will terminate.
Managing director Paul Komboi said this would enable the province to have access to high-speed and resilient internet access.
“Currently Manus is serviced by satellite providers through Telikom, Digicel and bmobile.
“However, access, speed, cost and availability on the satellite services has its own dilemma which the people of Manus have been putting up with,” he said.
“The new submarine cable network will further extend broadband services on a better and stable network and cease those satellite limitations.”
Komboi said the team which visited Manus was made up of engineers and contractors to do a topography survey for the cable landing station. It will be built at the Manus National Broadcasting Commission premises.
Manus MP Job Pomat said the cable “will ensure people of Manus and businesshouses have access to high-speed internet and other online services such as e-commerce, banking, e-learning .
