Marape backs Hunters

PRIME Minister James Marape, pictured, says his Government will continue to back the SP Hunters despite their poor campaign in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup this season.
The 13th-placed Hunters have the worst attack – 315 points scored all season – and second worst defence (750 points conceded) in the 14-team competition. It’s little wonder why Michael Marum’s men have recorded just four wins, a draw and 18 losses, making it their worst season since their 2014 debut.
But despite these statistics, Marape is sticking solid with the 2017 premiers as they look to put a horror season behind them.
“I will support them all the way,” Marape said following the Hunters’ 0-46 loss to the visiting Redcliffe Dolphins at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
“I want to be part of the franchise. I will be fully committed next season and move around with the team (whenever I can).”
Tari-Pori MP Marape was seated on the sideline alongside Marum and the Hunters coaching staff.
He enjoyed watching from the touchline instead of the VIP Corporate Lounge.
Marape himself is a former rugby league player aligned with the Dobo Warriors in the Port Moresby Rugby League competition.
Meanwhile, Marape’s provincial team Kroton Hela Wigmen face Digicel Cup minor premiers Lae Snax Tigers at the NFS on Sunday.
The Wigmen are coming off a morale-boosting 30-10 victory against the Waghi Tumbe and will be looking to add the Tigers to their list of casualties as they look to cap off their fairytale run with a win.
