PRIME Minister James Marape commended Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko and residents of the electorate following the opening of the Moresby South Rugby League Stadium at Kaugere on Sunday.
He said the opening of the stadium showed their commitment to properly use district services improvement programme funds (DSIP) for tangible changes.
“What is happening here in Moresby South and as far as this Cabinet is concerned, the stadium is a product of an MP putting to good use DSIP (funds),” Marape said.
“It makes me happy as the prime minister that through the proper process, we’ve witnessed the hard work of people to see such a facility and I congratulate Moresby South.”
Tkatchenko said it was a result of the continued partnership between the people of Moresby South and the city authority to change the attitude and perceptions of the community.
“We are taking our electorate to another level,” he said.
“I’m so proud of everyone, it’s a team effort and a partnership when we all work together to make things happen and that’s the key.
“This will not only be used for rugby league, but for our church and community activities so it will be a multi-purpose stadium that will promote what we do in our electorate.” Tkatchenko said the stadium would serve as the home venue for the Moresby South Blacks, the electorate’s flagship team who will be bidding for a spot in the Digicel Cup next year.

  • Its good to build stadium but at this time of Covid 19 and financial difficulties, why not doing something that benefits all Moresby North East Electorate.
Its only city and sports people who mostly benefits to such development.
Its time to think of our rural population that bring some positive changes to.livelihoods of our citizens.

  • I urge the community to look after such a facility. It is an investment in the community. Many good things are likely to happen by using that facility. Also congratulations on your MP who strives to do better for Moresby South Electorate all the time.

  • Thank you Moresby South MP, JT for this tangible Infrustructure Development. When Lady Kidu retired from politics, I at first couldn’t trust any of Lady Kidu’s successor to be a performing MP. I can now confidently challenge other MPs that Justin is one of those very hard working MPs regardless of allegations over APEC spending and other accusations labelled against him.

Although it is true that him and O’Neil owe to PNGeans some explanation regarding the construction of inflated sports facilities, he has delivered well beyond expectation during his term as Lands minister and in his district.

  • Moresby South the way to go. Seeing is Believing. JT will be here now and gone tomorrow but these INFRASTRUCTURES will be here to stay and will remain his Legacy. Keep it up
