FINANCE Minister James Marape says the Government has spent K4.25 billion on education in the last four years.
He was responding to a question by Telefomin MP Solan Mirism in Parliament yesterday for the Government to reveal how much it invested in education during the period.
Marape said 70 per cent of the Tuition Fee (TFF) funds had been disbursed to schools across the country this year.
“This Government since 2012 has invested so far K3.25 billion in free education,” he said.
“The Government is committed, the remaining 30 per cent (TFF Funds) will be remitted before we retire this academic year.”
On the issue of lack of spaces in classrooms raised by Opposition leader Don Polye, Marape said: “The issue of lack of spacing in classrooms over the last four years, the Government has invested K712 million.
“The funding was remitted to districts for education.
“The Government and taxpayers expects some classrooms to be built on the ground.”
