PRIME Minister James Marape says laws amended in good faith will progress the Papua LNG project and other similar projects.
Marape was commenting on the 10 Papua LNG Amendment Bills 2019 passed by Parliament yesterday.
He said the Government should put in place some key milestones so that construction could start soon.
“This project will bring us some money,” he said.
“It will be an injection of new money into the economy as the construction ramp up and as we go into concluding construction and awaiting production.
“We are looking forward to this one.
“The industry must not take our country for granted when we are in conversation with the industry about optimising and maximising gains from our resources.
“We intend to do it with a cognitive view that the industry must also be making money.
“Finding that win-win pitch is something that we will do.
“We did our best but the laws are also there for us to honour.”
Marape said the same laws allowed for the deployment of the gas agreement.
“While it may not be a total water fall, we all dream for our country, this one will inject new funds into our economy.”
Marape said the two trains for Papua were good.
“I want to meet with the Petroleum Minister and Total as the leader of Papua LNG at the very earliest.”
