PRIME Minister James Marape and Autonomous Bougainville Government President Ishmael Toroama have signed a communique to continue the peace process on Bougainville.
This is recognition of the contribution of the late former prime minister Sir Mekere Morauta to the Bougainville peace process.
They both agreed that Sir Mekere’s signing of the Bougainville Peace Agreement was a testament to the faith of the Government in the continued peace efforts.
“He is honoured by all Bougainvilleans because of the revival of the peace agreement which had stalled,” Toroama said.
“During the weapons disposal process, there was a lot of discrepancy.
“As the process continued, there was mutual understanding between the people of Bougainville and PNG.
“I was a signatory of the peace agreement.
“On Sir Mekere’s legacy, we (buried him) three days ago and it’s the germination of a seed that has seen us coming together to sign this communique.”
