Marape wants GBV, FSV counters in all police stations

National

EVERY police station in the country is to have separate gender-based violence (GBV) and family sexual violence (FSV) counters immediately, Prime Minister James Marape says.
Though action is yet to be seen, it is the first indication from his Government that it is ready to take stringent steps to eliminate or reduce violence in communities.
“The police ministry has been instructed to immediately establish GBV and FSV counters at every police station across the country and create separate pathways to address them,” Marape said in a statement.
“For example, if you are witness to a GBV or FSV case, then you are party to the crime if you do not report it.
“I also stress that once a GBV or FSV case is reported to police, it cannot be withdrawn.”
He said violence against women in any form would no longer be tolerated.
Marape reiterated his stance even though his first indications to oppose such violence did not emerge as strongly as it did on Tuesday.
“Violence against women have continued even though it appeared that the violent death suffered by late Jenelyn Kennedy appeared to set alarm bells ringing: Enough.
“Over the next 10 years, this country must change for the better, into a society where women are free from the shackles of GBV and FSV,” the prime minister said.
“Women must also be free to walk around at night without fear of being attacked.”

  • Sorry Mr. Marape, we need a clear plan from you for the country regarding the economic devastation your government is causing.
We need clear plan from you on how to put a stop to the rising crime numbers
    and police brutality.
We need a clear plan on how Public servants and other service providers get their pay on time.
    Stop the sweet talk.
Your weakness is now too obvious.

  • PMjm, in your short period of time, not even 2 years over yet, PNG is encountering lot of killings and law and order problems are getting bad to worse. What have you done? Did God appointed you to take back PNG? Did you change the government in true spirit? Is bible still in the Parliament house or removed? where are we heading too? How can you take back png? Are these blessings or curse? How can reset people’s mindset? Where are Png laws? Can the government introduce customary laws, eye for an eye and tooth for tooth? Can we introduce muscle law? More to come and be ready to face or challenge.

    • Andy Mapi, please write in full English and not half English. Anyway, what kind of law is a “Muscle law”? Can anyone explain, please?

  • Hon. PMJM is not moved by what critics are saying. Thank you for good comments and bad comments because whatever you say is only describing yourself – one finger to others and four back to you.
