RABAUL MP Allan Marat has urged public servants and the private sector in his electorate to seek strength in the source of accountability.
He was speaking during the 4th annual Rabaul district public servants’ dedication service at Korere United church in Kabiu, East New Britain.
Speaking on the theme of “Strengthening accountability to improve service delivery”, Marat said the divine source of accountability was the spirit that could be sourced from God first and “only then each individual could be truly and transparently accountable to serve the people, own families and oneself so that everyone was prosperous”.
He said 2013 brought the opportunity to showcase what Rabaul district public servants could achieve in accounting for public funds.
“There is still room for improvement and strengthening considering accountability to be a bound state of responsibility and conduct or simply the moral duty to obey God with the legal expected obligation to answer to the people,” he said.
He further explained that accountability was life accorded by virtue of the fact that humans were a creation of the highest form and obliged to be accountable regardless able or disable.
“The time spent, conduct, responsibility, efficiency, outcome and commitment must be shown as servants of the people.”
Marat said the district was the best government implementation district of the 89 districts in Papua New Guinea.
