A one-week men’s health clinic session was held at the Marie Stopes Lae Centre with a fly-in service provider.
Ivy Karue, Marie Stopes PNG digital communications and events coordinator, said they are now providing weeklong services with a fly-in service provider.
“We offer circumcision and vasectomies through our centres in Port Moresby and Lae, but currently do not have a permanent service provider at both centres,” Karue said.
She said the fly-in service provider is scheduled for week-long sessions at both clinics to provide their men’s clinical services.
The Lae centre held its first week-long men’s health clinic sessions with the fly-in service provider present at the clinic since relocating to Parer Street Eriku.
Men’s health clinic services are at reasonable prices of K20 consultation fee (pre-operation) and K300 service fees (for operations).
Marie Stopes PNG country manager Angelyn Famudi, speaking at a recent event, said while providing sexual reproductive health services, they are also putting much importance on men’s health issues.
“These services are available for men and boys from 18 years and above with consent from parents for circumcision and older guys for vasectomy,” said Famudi.
She added one of the challenges that they faced with providing these services is the stigma attached to it.
“Working in a place that is highly stigmatised and the sensitivity of our religions that come into play with it,” Famudi said.
She said it is a community effort for more advocacy and awareness to be carried out regarding this services.
The Marie Stopes Lae Centre is open for all other services at their new location at Parer Street Eriku with only scheduled week-long services for men’s health clinic.
