Marijuana cases top crimes list

MARIJUANA cases have topped the weekly crime reports in Port Moresby, says National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou.
N’Dranou said the drug had always been around in the communities but last week there were 13 cases, more than most weeks, reported.
“The second highest number of cases that were reported were sexual-related offences, especially rape, which is eight,” he said.
He said sexual offence rate remained high, similar to previous weeks’.
“Other cases include six stolen motor vehicles, six fraud cases, one break and enter stealing, two armed robberies and four homicide investigations.”
N’Dranou said each week the overall crime statistics remained steady. “That is what is reported to police and based on the police weekly statistics,” he said.
“The daily operation is to support the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit which we are involved in.”
N’Dranou said the second senior officials meetings were going into the third week.
Security operations were going well, he said.
