LOCAL women at the Girua Airport in Northern roadside market will soon have a new place to sell their produce and other goods.

China Harbour Construction company, which is upgrading the Girua Airport, is also building a permanent market facility.

The women from the Girua and Sambogo villages have been selling their goods under bush material huts.

They said they were happy that a new building was being built for them to cater for  airline passengers and commuters along the Oro Bay highway.

The airport roadside market is popular for the Tilapia fish caught from the Embi Lake, which sell for K10.

“The government has given us these facilities so we have to take ownership and responsibilities to look after such properties,” a female vendor said.

“We are mostly women from the Girua area, the principal land owners of the Girua Airport”.
