Markets reopen for business

MARKETS are trading avenues and hence are economic hubs for many grassroots people and mainly those in the informal sector, East new Britain market authority manager Ekonia Walon says.
Announcing the re-opening of the main markets on Monday in Kokopo, he said the authority regulated operations of markets in the province.
Walom said apart from the main markets of Kokopo, Rabaul and Kerevat, the market authority also manages the Palmalmal market in Pomio.
Walom said the province’s three main markets had re-opened for business but they would be limited to operating on three days – Monday, Wednesday and Saturday – per week.
Walom said markets were places for conducting economic activities, mainly for the fresh food producers, and were a source of income for many farmers.
